The Real Cost Of Living In Spain

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

As more and more Europeans look to areas such as Spain for their retirement and employment prospects, it seems that one of the sticking points for many is clarifying the actual cost of living in Spain. How does it compare to the UK? Are the services as good? What can you expect for your money?

A recently snap poll compiled by spanish property portal Kyero.com, looked at a wide range of locations in Spain, assessing the cost of living, standard of services and exactly what you can expect for your money. While the results show a mixed bag of pros and cons, the overall picture is one which will attract more and more people to seriously consider Spain as their new home and confirms why is still the top destination for overseas retirees.

Chinese Tourist Trade Fails To Take Off

When you consider that the Chinese tropical hotspots of Hainan and Yunnan attracted some 18 million tourist visitors last year, yet only 750,000 were from foreign lands, the problem starts to become a little clearer. While China has so much to offer and is investing billions of dollars into its infrastructure, improving transport networks and massive advertising campaigns, the visitors to chinese beach resorts are just not appearing but why?

A Flight to India Courtesy of Richard Branson?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

While current rules bar any foreign company or individual from owning shares in or running a domestic Indian Airline, Richard Branson is set to ask the Indian government to review these rules as he looks to push his Virgin Atlantic empire into new and exciting lands. But why is entering the market for Indian flights so enticing?

When you consider that the country has a population of over 1.1 billion people, an airline industry which is currently growing at over 25% a year, not to mention a strong economy, it seems that all of the elements are in place for long term growth with plenty of profit to be made. While this would probably be Virgin╤В╨Р╨йs largest project to date, the company has been very active all around the world with a number of joint ventures and start-ups such as Australian based Virgin Blue.

Is It Time To Dock Your Yacht In India?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

India recently played host to a major luxury boating conference which seems to have opened up a new and exciting avenue for the country. While India has become home to many extremely rich individuals, until now the marinas in India have been distinctly lacking but this looks all set to change as waterfront living comes to India’s shores.

Is It Time To Dock Your Yacht In India?

Just last week nubricks reported on high profile plans for new golf courses in India but at the same time, the foundation stone was set in what is destined to be the first of a number of high profile and high class yachting marinas across the coastline of India. This marina venture is situated at Bolgatty Island in the district of Kochi in Central Kerala, but this is only the first in a number of planned developments along the coastline of India by Kerala’s tourism development corporation. Following the recent boat show many are speculating that we are about to see a major increase in demand for luxury boats and yachting with more interest shown than ever before. This will naturally pave the way for further marina developments many of which often capitalise on their favourable outlook to incorporate waterfront property developments.

Turkish Authorities Announce Ambitious Tourism Plans

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

While Turkey may already be a major player in the tourism market, the Turkish Tourism and Culture office have announced ambitious plans to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Turkish Republic in 2023. Ismet Yilmax, under-secretary to the department of Tourism and Culture believes that the country can increase visitor numbers to more than 50 million a year, and increase tourist related revenues to more than $50 billion a year!

On the face of it, these targets are very ambitious and while not to say impossible, there will be much work to be done in the country before they can even accommodate that number of visitors, never mind attract them to the country. There is no doubt that Turkey is a very popular destination for tourists from all over the world, but at this moment in time the industry is very much focused on the so called ╤В╨Р╨мsand and sea╤В╨Р╨н beach resorts. While these will always be very important elements of any tourist industry, there will need to be changes to attract the numbers being mentioned. Turkey plans to up the numbers of people working in tourism to 5 million and extend its fleet by 500 planes.

It’s a little late this month, but I figured it was better late than never. Calgary’s real estate market is still going strong however I think we should expect to see it level off here in the coming months. These are a few of the July Calgary Metro stats and released by the Calgary Real Estate Board in early August.
